Not every situation that feels like it deserves a reaction actually requires one. Not every emotion needs to be expressed the moment it’s felt. Proverbs 29:11 reminds us that “a fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise person holds it back.” That doesn’t mean you don’t feel it. It means you don’t let every feeling have control over your actions.

Sometimes defeat doesn’t look like falling. Sometimes it looks like waking up tired…Going to bed tired…And living in a constant state of “I’m doing everything I can… and it’s still a lot.” And if we’re being real—that’s where a lot of people are right now. Not defeated. Just… worn down.

Today on Tony Tips Tuesdays™, we’re going deeper than surface-level character growth. We’re talking about characters who embrace change — not those who are dragged into it unwillingly, not those who adapt passively, but those who consciously choose transformation. And because this is the 24th day of Black History Month, we will ground this conversation in the life of Ida B. Wells, whose transformation from teacher to investigative crusader reshaped history.

On February 21, 1965, Malcolm X was assassinated in New York City. And every February 22 becomes a day not only to remember how he died — but how he grew. Because one of the most powerful aspects of Malcolm X’s life was not simply his boldness. It was his evolution.

The heroes we carry with us—the ones we talk about years later—are the ones who tremble. The ones who feel. The ones who crack under the weight and then choose, somehow, to stand back up. Today's Tony Tips Tuesdays™, I want to talk about something that separates surface-level storytelling from emotionally powerful storytelling: Vulnerability in your hero.

Proverbs reminds us plainly, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23). Guarding requires boundaries, and boundaries require discernment. That discernment—knowing what to refuse as much as what to receive—is not resistance to God’s will. It is often evidence of it.

God develops His greatest warriors in secret places. He strengthens His champions in shadows, not stages. The shadows are not your punishment —they are your preparation. God hides you to shape you. He shields you to strengthen you. He shelters you to sharpen you. Everything He is building in you right now is happening away from public eyes — but it is not wasted. Heaven sees everything you’re becoming.

In a world obsessed with speed and results, waiting feels like weakness. But in God’s kingdom, waiting is warfare. When heaven seems silent and progress feels paused, the Soldier of Light Against Darkness™ learns to draw strength not from motion, but from trust. Waiting isn’t wasting time — it’s weaponizing time.

Sometimes your promotion comes after rejection. Sometimes your elevation happens in the very place where people tried to bury you. Sometimes God’s promotion bypasses all the people who overlooked you, doubted you, or even opposed you—and sets you in a position no one can explain except by saying, “Surely, the Lord did this.”
