Favor Fridays with Tony™: The Favor of Peace in the Midst—When God’s Presence Steadies You in Life’s Storms

ree

Introduction: Peace That Doesn’t Make Sense

Most people think of peace as the absence of problems — a quiet house, a balanced bank account, no sickness, no conflict, no stress. But true peace, God’s peace, isn’t found when everything is calm around you. It’s found when everything is chaotic and yet your spirit remains steady.

That’s the favor of peace in the midst.

When you are surrounded by storms but not shaken by them, when you are under pressure but not crushed, when you can sleep, sing, and smile in situations that should have broken you — that’s not natural. That’s supernatural favor.

It’s the kind of peace Paul described in Philippians 4:7:

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

This peace doesn’t just calm you down. It guards you — protecting your heart and mind from anxiety, fear, and despair.

That’s favor.

Tony’s Favor Fact™: Peace isn’t the absence of problems. Peace is the presence of God in the middle of them.

Biblical Stories of Peace in the Midst

1. Jesus Calms the Storm (Mark 4:35–41)

The disciples were panicking, convinced the storm would sink them. Meanwhile, Jesus was asleep on a cushion in the back of the boat. They shook Him awake: “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

Jesus stood, rebuked the wind and waves, and everything went still. Then He asked them, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

Peace wasn’t just what Jesus gave. Peace was who He was.

Tony’s Favor Fact™: When you have Jesus in your boat, storms can’t sink you.

2. Daniel in the Lions’ Den (Daniel 6:16–23)

Thrown into a den of hungry lions for refusing to stop praying, Daniel should have been torn apart. Instead, he slept through the night because an angel of the Lord shut the lions’ mouths.

The favor here wasn’t just deliverance. It was peace — enough for Daniel to rest surrounded by danger.

3. Paul and Silas in Prison (Acts 16:25–26)

Beaten, chained, and imprisoned, Paul and Silas could have groaned and complained. Instead, they sang hymns and prayed until a violent earthquake shook the prison and set them free.

Their peace in the midst of injustice became the platform for God’s power.

Tony’s Favor Fact™: Your peace in crisis can trigger someone else’s breakthrough.

4. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the Fire (Daniel 3:16–27)

Facing a fiery furnace for refusing to bow, these three young men declared:

“The God we serve is able to deliver us… But even if He does not, we will not bow.”

They were thrown into the flames — but instead of being consumed, they walked around unharmed with a fourth figure, “like a son of the gods.”

The favor wasn’t just surviving the fire. It was walking in peace while in it.

Tony’s Favor Fact™: Peace is knowing God can deliver you, but trusting Him even if He doesn’t do it the way you expect.

What Is Peace, Really?

In the Bible, peace is more than the absence of conflict. The Hebrew word shalom means wholeness, harmony, completeness, prosperity, and security. It is God’s blessing of total well-being.

Jesus reaffirmed this in John 14:27:

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

The world offers peace based on circumstances. God offers peace based on His presence.

Why Peace Is Favor

  1. It Guards Your Heart and Mind. Peace protects you from anxiety and mental warfare (Philippians 4:7).

  2. It Strengthens Your Witness. When people see your calm in chaos, they see Christ in you.

  3. It Preserves Your Strength. Stress drains. Peace sustains.

  4. It Aligns You with God’s Will. You can’t hear God clearly when you’re overwhelmed by fear. Peace positions you to discern His voice.

Tony’s Favor Fact™: Peace is proof that favor isn’t just about what God gives you — it’s about what He keeps you from losing.

Modern-Day Reflections

I’ve known seasons where everything looked like it should collapse — but instead of panic, God gave me peace. Bills stacked high, yet I slept. Health challenges came, yet I smiled. Uncertainty loomed, yet I kept writing, kept moving, kept trusting.

That wasn’t me being strong. That was God’s favor showing up as peace in the midst.

And maybe you’ve seen it too:

  • The hospital patient who radiates joy while fighting illness.

  • The parent who sings through struggles because they trust God’s provision.

  • The believer who praises when others expect them to break.

These are all testimonies of favor — the peace that passes understanding.

How to Walk in Peace Daily

  1. Pray Instead of Worrying

Philippians 4:6 (NIV) — “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

  1. Focus on God’s Word. Peace flows from promises, not problems (Isaiah 26:3).

  2. Guard Your Mind. Limit voices that stir fear. Feed on truth, not chaos.

  3. Stay Thankful. Gratitude keeps your eyes on what God has done, not what you lack.

  4. Choose Trust Over Control. Letting go is how you hold onto peace.

Tony’s Favor Fact™: Peace isn’t found in control. Peace is found in surrender.

Prayer for Peace in the Midst

Father, thank You for being the God of peace. Thank You that even when storms surround me, I can rest in You. Guard my heart, calm my mind, and anchor my soul in Your promises. Let my peace be a testimony to others of Your power and presence. I receive Your peace today, not as the world gives, but as only You can give. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Final Word: Carriers of Peace

The favor of peace in the midst isn’t just for us — it’s for others, too. When you walk in peace, you carry peace into rooms, workplaces, and families that desperately need it. You become a vessel of God’s presence, reminding others that storms don’t have the final say.

So as you step into your next week, remember: peace is not passive. Peace is powerful. It’s God’s favor covering you so you can live boldly, love deeply, and trust completely.

And if you’ve been encouraged today, I invite you to journey deeper into stories of faith and supernatural favor in my S.O.L.A.D.™: Soldiers of Light Against Darkness™ novels, where characters battle darkness not with fear, but with light, courage, and God’s power.
