Reap What You Sow Mondays with Tony: Water Walkers: Black Women Who Stepped Out When It Didn’t Make Sense

Throughout history, Black women have carried dreams into spaces where doubt was planted. They have walked on waters of uncertainty, injustice, rejection, and fear—because when God said “Come,” they obeyed.

Today, we honor those water walkers—the ones who dared to believe that faith could carry them farther than fear ever could.

They didn’t wait for safety. They didn’t wait for applause. They didn’t wait for permission.

They stepped out—and God met them on the water.

🌊 The Call to Step Out Isn’t Always Logical—It’s Always Spiritual

Peter stepped out of the boat while the storm still raged. The waves weren’t calm. The risk wasn’t gone.

But the command wasn’t based on the sea’s condition—it was based on Christ’s invitation.

Water-walking faith isn't about the absence of danger. It’s about the presence of God.

Black women know this deeply:

  • Trusting God when schools said, “You don’t belong here.”

  • Trusting God when boardrooms were closed and churches underestimated them.

  • Trusting God when society tried to sink their dreams before they could swim.

And still—they walked.

What It Means to Be a Water Walker

  • It means leaving comfort zones.

  • It means refusing to shrink when storms swell.

  • It means believing that Jesus holds the waters together—even when your knees shake.

To walk on water is to refuse to be defined by what you’re walking through.

🌿 Faith Doesn’t Wait for Calm Seas

📖 Ecclesiastes 11:4 (NKJV)"He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap."

If you wait for the storm to pass, you may miss your moment.

Water walkers move at the sound of God’s voice, not the sight of the sky.

🧎🏾‍♀️ The Silent Battles of Water Walkers

Stepping out looks glamorous from a distance—but up close, it’s raw:

  • Fear whispers: “What if you sink?”

  • People murmur: “You’re doing too much.”

  • Your own heart wrestles: “Was I crazy to believe?”

But faith says,

"If Jesus said ‘Come,’ then this storm must submit to His sovereignty."

Black women have often walked through:

  • Financial droughts

  • Medical deserts

  • Political storms

  • Emotional hurricanes

  • Spiritual warfare

And through it all, their steps testify: My God is bigger than my storm.
