Reed's Reads of Wisdom Wednesdays™: Demons Don’t Sleep: Why We Can’t Get Spiritually Lazy

ree

The scene from Chapter 2 of Book II of S.O.L.A.D.™: Soldiers of Light Against Darkness™, “…It’s Just the Beginning,” makes one thing abundantly clear: evil is relentless. As soon as Angelo™ and Angeline™ return to Memphis, demonic forces descend without mercy. Dragons fill the skies, armored demons roam the streets, tornadoes become portals for dark entities, and even hellholes begin to erupt beneath the city. There’s no rest, no moment to catch their breath — only the call to respond, fight, and protect.

That’s not just fiction. It’s a prophetic reminder of our own spiritual battle. Demons don’t sleep. The enemy doesn’t take a day off, and neither can we.

1. The Illusion of Spiritual “Breaks”

Let’s be honest — we all feel the temptation to coast spiritually. Life gets busy, routines settle in, and before long we’re skipping time in prayer, putting off Bible study, or neglecting the armor we’re commanded to wear. But as Angelo, Angeline, and the others learned the hard way — the fight doesn’t wait.

In fact, spiritual laziness invites attack. The dragon in this chapter didn’t announce its coming. The hellholes didn’t give notice. Evil doesn’t wait until you feel ready to fight — it strikes when it sees you’re unarmed.

Ephesians 6:11 tells us to:“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

The whole armor. Daily. Deliberately. With discipline.

2. Vigilance Is Not Paranoia — It’s Power

When Jeff and Wiseman J arrive, it’s clear they’ve seen this kind of chaos before. Their preparedness isn’t random — it’s wisdom born from experience. We need that same mindset.

Spiritual vigilance isn’t paranoia. It’s power.

Think of Joseph in Egypt — alert, discerning, always ready to act with wisdom. Think of Nehemiah, building the wall with one hand and holding a weapon with the other. That’s how believers must operate in this day and age.

We’re not called to panic, but to prepare. Not to fear, but to fortify.

Jesus warned His disciples in Matthew 26:41:“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

We must keep our spirits sharp and our armor on.

3. Discipline Destroys Demonic Strongholds

Every time Angeline forms a force field, it’s not an accident. It’s control. It’s spiritual muscle memory. Likewise, when Angelo fights dragons and unleashes purity bombs, it’s with divine discipline, not chaotic energy.

Spiritual discipline is the key to survival and victory.

Here are some daily disciplines we cannot afford to ignore:

  • Daily prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17 – “Pray without ceasing.”)

  • Scripture study (Psalm 119:105 – “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet…”)

  • Fasting (Matthew 17:21 – “This kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.”)

  • Worship (John 4:24 – “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”)

  • Fellowship (Hebrews 10:25 – “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…”)

These aren’t spiritual accessories. They are armor pieces. They are weapons. They are shields.

4. You Don’t Fight Alone

Angelo may be the sword-wielding hero, but he’s not alone. He has Angeline’s wisdom and power, Jeff’s fire and quick thinking, and Wiseman J’s strategy and experience. In the same way, we are part of a spiritual army.

Ecclesiastes 4:12 says:“And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”

Don’t isolate yourself. Stay connected. Lean on your brothers and sisters in Christ. Accountability, encouragement, and corporate prayer keep your spiritual blade sharp.

5. Know Your Real Enemy

When the Demon Master appears, it’s chilling. He’s not just a threat — he’s a deceiver, a manipulator, a reminder of what happens when evil goes unchecked. But Wiseman J is quick to point out: he is a liar.

And that’s true of our real enemy.

John 8:44 tells us that Satan is the “father of lies.”

He lies about your identity. He lies about your worth. He lies about your purpose.

But truth — God’s truth — always exposes and expels darkness. That’s why we must know God’s Word. The same way Jesus resisted the devil in the wilderness with scripture, we must wield truth like a sword.

6. The Power Within You

The climax of the chapter shows Angelo chasing a cunning dragon who tries everything to escape. But when Angeline joins him, they combine their powers with precision and faith.

The result?

Victory.

Angelo doesn’t just destroy the dragon. He uses its impact to annihilate an entire wave of demonic forces.

The lesson?

What’s inside you is greater than what’s against you.

1 John 4:4 reminds us:“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

We don’t fight in our strength. We fight in His power.

DECLARATIONS:

  • I will not be spiritually lazy.

  • I will stay vigilant in prayer, study, and worship.

  • I will not fear the attacks of the enemy, for my God fights for me.

  • I put on the full armor of God every day.

  • I trust in God’s strength, not my own.

  • I am a Soldier of Light Against Darkness™.

  • I will not sleep through my assignment.

  • I will be ready in season and out of season.

  • I resist the devil and he must flee.

  • I will not fall for the lies of the enemy.

  • My mind is sharp, my spirit is awake, my heart is steadfast.

  • I will overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS:

  1. Where in your spiritual life have you been spiritually lazy?

  2. What daily disciplines can you recommit to starting today?

  3. Who are your “battle partners” — your Angelines, your Jeffs, your Wiseman J’s?

  4. Are you spiritually armed, or exposed to attack?

  5. Do you know how to wield the Word as your weapon?

FINAL ENCOURAGEMENT:

When hell breaks loose, don’t fall apart. Rise up. Put on your armor. Trust your Commander. Stand with your fellow soldiers.

Angelo and the others didn’t retreat when the skies darkened or the hellholes opened. Neither should you. Your identity is not “survivor.” It’s overcomer. It’s warrior.  It’s Child of God.

You were born for battle. Just like the Soldiers of Light Against Darkness™.

Demons don’t sleep. But God never slumbers nor sleeps.

So stay armored. Stay alert. Stay alive in the Spirit.

Because this fight is far from over…

…but so is your story.

Now go be light.
