Reed’s Reads of Wisdom Wednesdays™: Do Not Confuse Being Chosen With Being Finished— Why God Can Call You Before He Completes What He Is Still Building in You

Being chosen does not mean you are finished. That is a truth many people struggle with because we often think calling should come with instant confidence, instant maturity, instant strength and instant understanding. We think that if God chooses someone, that person should immediately know what to do, how to feel, what to say, where to go and how to carry the weight of the assignment without fear, doubt or struggle.

But that is not how growth works. God can choose you while you are still scared. He can call you while you are still uncertain. He can place purpose on your life while there are still parts of you that need healing, training, correction, discipline and maturity. Being chosen is not always proof that the process is over. Sometimes being chosen is proof that the process has officially begun.

That truth sits at the heart of S.O.L.A.D.™: Soldiers of Light Against Darkness™: The Angelo™ & Angeline™ Chronicles. Kevin Edwards and Juanita Grayson are chosen to become Angelo™ and Angeline™, but they do not step into that calling as perfect, fully formed heroes. They have questions. They have fears. They have emotional wounds. They have doubts. They have to learn how to use what God placed in their hands. They have to grow into the responsibility that comes with the light they carry.

Philippians 1:6 says, “being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

That scripture does not say God starts a good work and leaves it unfinished. It says He completes what He begins. That means the beginning matters, but so does the building. The calling matters, but so does the character. The gift matters, but so does the growth.

Chosen Does Not Mean Complete

One of the biggest mistakes people make is assuming that being chosen means they should no longer struggle. They think calling should erase fear. They think purpose should silence insecurity. They think gifts should remove weakness. They think if God really sent them, they should never need help, wisdom, patience or correction.

But God chooses people He still intends to develop. Kevin and Juanita were not chosen because they had already mastered everything. They were chosen because God had placed something inside them that could be trained, strengthened and used for His purpose. Their calling was real, but so was their need to grow. Their light was real, but so was their need to learn how to carry it.

That is important for readers because many people count themselves out when they discover they are still under construction. They say, “I still have too many fears.” They say, “I still have too many questions.” They say, “I still get overwhelmed.” They say, “I still do not feel ready.”

But feeling unfinished does not mean God has not chosen you. It may mean God is still completing the work He started.

Angelo™ Had Power, But He Still Needed Growth

Kevin Edwards becomes Angelo™, a Soldier of Light Against Darkness™, but his transformation does not erase his humanity. He receives power, but he still has to learn courage. He receives a sword, but he still has to learn wisdom. He receives a mission, but he still has to learn how to carry the emotional pressure that comes with it.

That makes Kevin powerful as a character because he is not distant from readers. He feels real. He is strong, but he is still growing. He is brave, but he still wrestles with fear. He wants to protect people, but he still has to fight the insecurity that whispers he may not be enough.

That is what makes his journey so meaningful. God does not wait until Kevin feels perfectly ready before calling him. The crisis comes. The need appears. The darkness rises. People are in danger. The mission cannot wait until Kevin has worked through every fear. He has to step forward while God is still developing him.

That is how life often works. Sometimes you have to serve while you are still healing. Sometimes you have to lead while you are still learning. Sometimes you have to pray while you are still afraid. Sometimes you have to step into the assignment while God is still strengthening your heart for what the assignment requires.

Angeline™ Had Strength, But She Still Had to Mature

Juanita Grayson’s journey as Angeline™ also shows that being chosen is not the same as being finished. Juanita is strong, gifted and deeply important to the mission, but she does not become Angeline™ without resistance, pressure or growth. She has to wrestle with the weight of responsibility. She has to learn how to trust what God placed inside her. She has to grow from reluctance into courage and from uncertainty into ownership.

That is real growth. Some people believe courage should show up fully formed. They think strong people never hesitate. They think chosen people never wrestle with the burden of what God asks them to do. But Juanita’s journey reminds us that courage can be developed. Responsibility can be learned. Faith can grow through pressure.

Angeline™ does not matter because she never struggles. She matters because she keeps growing.

That is a message someone needs. Your first reaction does not have to be your final identity. You may begin afraid, but you can grow into courage. You may begin reluctant, but you can grow into obedience. You may begin uncertain, but you can grow into a person who understands that God did not choose you by accident.

Jeff Was Experienced, But Still Needed Healing

Jeff: Ward of Law gives this message another powerful layer because Jeff is not new to battle. He has been fighting long before Kevin and Juanita arrive. He has experience. He has courage. He has skill. He has scars. He has history. He has saved lives and faced horrors most people could never imagine.

But experience does not mean completion. Jeff still has wounds. He still has anger. He still has pride. He still has moments where pain tries to shape his reactions. His struggle with Monstrosity proves that a person can be strong in public and still need healing in private. A person can be gifted in battle and still need God to work on their character. A person can have history with God and still need fresh surrender.

That is one of the most important spiritual truths in the S.O.L.A.D.™ journey. Time does not automatically mature a person. Battles do not automatically heal a person. Experience does not automatically produce wisdom. Sometimes people survive many fights but still carry wounds that need to be brought before God.

Jeff reminds us that being used before does not mean God is finished working on us now.

Calling Reveals What Still Needs Work

Purpose has a way of exposing what still needs to grow. When God calls someone into something bigger, the assignment does not only reveal their gifts. It also reveals their weak places. It reveals where fear still speaks. It reveals where pride still rises. It reveals where insecurity still argues. It reveals where anger still wants control. It reveals where patience still needs to be developed.

That does not mean the calling is wrong. It means the calling is stretching the person.

Kevin’s calling reveals his fear. Juanita’s calling reveals her reluctance and pressure. Jeff’s calling reveals his anger, pride and wounds. None of that means they are useless. It means they are human. It means God is not only using them to fight darkness around them. He is also working on the darkness, fear, pain and immaturity that still try to rise within them.

That is what makes spiritual growth so powerful. God does not only want you to complete the assignment. He wants the assignment to help complete something in you.

Training Is Part of the Calling

Wiseman J understands something Kevin and Juanita do not fully understand at first: they need training. They may be chosen, but they still have to learn. They have to learn what their rings can do. They have to learn how to fight. They have to learn how to work together. They have to learn how to listen, respond and move with wisdom.

Training is not punishment. Training is preparation. Many people resist training because they confuse it with delay. They think if God really called them, everything should happen immediately. But training protects the calling. Training builds discipline. Training strengthens confidence. Training exposes weak spots before the weight becomes too heavy.

A person who refuses training may have a gift but lack the maturity to carry it well. That is why teachability matters. Angelo™ and Angeline™ cannot only receive power. They must learn how to use it. They cannot only accept the title. They must grow into the responsibility. They cannot only know they are chosen. They must allow themselves to be shaped.

God’s process is not designed to embarrass us. It is designed to prepare us.

Do Not Despise the Season of Becoming

There is a season between being called and being ready for everything the calling will require. That season can feel uncomfortable because you know God has placed something inside you, but you also know you are not fully where you need to be yet.

That is the season of becoming. It is the place where God develops discipline. It is the place where He reveals hidden fear. It is the place where He corrects unhealthy motives. It is the place where He teaches patience, humility and endurance. It is the place where He strengthens the parts of you that would collapse under pressure if He let you move too quickly.

Kevin and Juanita have to become Angelo™ and Angeline™ in more than appearance. They have to become them in maturity, heart, courage and responsibility. Jeff has to become more than a warrior. He has to become a man whose strength is governed by healing, wisdom and self-control.

That is the work of becoming. Do not despise it. The process may feel slow, but God is building something that can last.

Your Gift Can Open the Door, But Character Helps You Stay There

Gifts are important, but gifts alone are not enough. A person can be gifted and still reckless. A person can be powerful and still prideful. A person can be talented and still immature. A person can be called and still need correction. That is why God works on character as much as calling.

Angelo™ needs courage and compassion to guide his strength. Angeline™ needs responsibility and endurance to carry her power. Jeff needs self-control and humility to keep his gift from being controlled by anger or pride. Wiseman J brings wisdom because the team needs more than ability. They need discernment.

That is a lesson for everyone. Your gift may get attention, but your character determines whether you can handle what comes with it. Your talent may create opportunity, but your maturity determines whether that opportunity becomes fruitful. Your calling may be real, but your heart still needs to be surrendered.

God is not only interested in what you can do. He is also interested in who you are becoming while you do it.

Being Unfinished Does Not Make You a Failure

Someone needs to hear this clearly: being unfinished does not make you a failure. It makes you a person in process.

The enemy loves to shame people for needing growth. He will point to every fear, every mistake, every emotional struggle and every weakness as proof that God could not possibly use them. He will try to convince them that needing correction means rejection. He will tell them that if they were really chosen, they would not still be struggling.

That is a lie. Philippians 1:6 reminds us that God completes what He begins. Completion means there is a process. Completion means there are stages. Completion means the work starts somewhere and continues over time. God is not surprised by the parts of you that still need work. He already knew them when He called you.

Kevin was still becoming. Juanita was still becoming. Jeff was still becoming. And so are we. That should not produce shame. It should produce hope.

God Does Not Abandon What He Starts

The beauty of Philippians 1:6 is the confidence it gives us. The scripture says He who began a good work will complete it. That means God is not careless with what He starts. He is not the kind of builder who lays a foundation and walks away. He is not the kind of Father who calls someone forward and then abandons them because they still need help.

God finishes what He begins. That does not mean we will never struggle. It does not mean we will never need correction. It does not mean growth will always be comfortable. But it does mean God is faithful through the process.

• When fear rises, He is still working.

• When insecurity speaks, He is still working.

• When anger needs to be surrendered, He is still working.

• When patience feels difficult, He is still working.

• When the assignment stretches you beyond what you thought you could handle, He is still working.

God’s work in you is not over because you are still growing.

Stop Expecting Finished Fruit From an Unfinished Process

Growth takes time. A seed does not become a tree overnight. A student does not become a master after one lesson. A soldier does not become battle-ready without training. A leader does not become wise without correction, experience and humility. A hero does not become mature simply because someone placed power in their hands.

We have to stop expecting finished fruit from an unfinished process. That does not mean we excuse immaturity forever. It means we recognize that becoming takes time, surrender and intentional growth. Kevin and Juanita could not stay confused forever. Jeff could not stay controlled by anger forever. Each character had to move forward. Each had to learn. Each had to face what the calling revealed.

Grace gives room to grow. Responsibility requires us to keep growing. That balance matters. God is patient with the unfinished places, but He still calls us forward.

What This Means for Us

This message is not only about fictional heroes, glowing rings, swords, sais, demons and spiritual battles. It is about real people trying to walk in purpose while still being shaped by God.

• Maybe you know God has called you to something, but you still feel afraid.

• Maybe you know there is purpose on your life, but insecurity keeps speaking.

• Maybe you know you have gifts, but discipline still needs work.

• Maybe you know you have been chosen for more, but old wounds still affect how you respond.

• Maybe you have been serving for years like Jeff, but God is still dealing with your anger, pride, pain or need to be seen.

Do not confuse those unfinished places with disqualification. Bring them to God. Let Him train you. Let Him heal you. Let Him correct you. Let Him mature you. Let Him stretch you. Let Him complete what He started.

You are not finished yet. That is not shame. That is hope.

Declarations for the One Still Becoming

Speak these over your life:

• I will not confuse being chosen with being finished.

• God can call me while He is still growing me.

• My unfinished places do not cancel my purpose.

• I will stay teachable.

• I will let God train, heal and mature me.

• I will not let fear define my calling.

• I will not let pride reject correction.

• I will not let insecurity silence my obedience.

• God is faithful to complete what He started in me.

• I am still becoming, and God is still working.

Final Thoughts

Do not confuse being chosen with being finished. God can place purpose on your life while He is still building the character to carry it. He can call you while He is still healing your wounds. He can use you while He is still training your hands, strengthening your heart, renewing your mind and maturing your spirit.

Kevin Edwards and Juanita Grayson were chosen to become Angelo™ and Angeline™, but they still had to grow into the weight of that calling. Jeff: Ward of Law had years of battle experience, but he still had inner places God needed to confront and heal. Their journeys remind us that calling is real, but growth is necessary.

Philippians 1:6 gives us confidence that God does not abandon what He begins. If He started a good work in you, He knows how to complete it. Your job is to stay surrendered, stay teachable, stay faithful and keep walking with Him through the process.
