Every warrior has faced a battle beyond the battlefield—the internal kind. In Chapter 9 of S.O.L.A.D.™ Book II, we witness a powerful confrontation not just between two heroes, but within their hearts. The battle isn’t just physical. It’s spiritual. Emotional. Personal. And at its core is a destructive force that creeps quietly and strikes loudly: jealousy.
The chapter titled "Green-Eyed Monsters" showcases the battle between Angelo and Jeff, manipulated by a demoness who doesn't need chains or spells to control them—only their insecurities and bitterness. With every insult hurled and every wound inflicted, we see what happens when comparison takes root, when egos inflate, and when pride leads instead of purpose.
This week’s Reed’s Reads of Wisdom Wednesdays™ explores how jealousy and bitterness can mutate even the mightiest heroes into monsters—and how humility and forgiveness offer the only path to true victory.
The Birth of the Green-Eyed Monster
Jealousy doesn’t start with rage. It starts with comparison. One person’s success becomes another’s insecurity. One person’s calling becomes another’s competition. And when left unchecked, jealousy grows teeth.
Angelo and Jeff are both heroes. Both chosen. Both gifted. But in the heat of battle, with emotions high and manipulation unseen, their old frustrations explode.
Jeff accuses Angelo of cowardice.Angelo mocks Jeff’s past failures.
Neither of them sees the demoness smiling in the shadows, feeding off their fractured bond.
Reed's Wisdom: The enemy doesn’t always destroy you through outside attacks. Sometimes he watches you destroy yourself from the inside out.
📖 Supporting Scripture: James 3:16 – "For where envy and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work."
✅ Declaration: I reject comparison. I walk in confidence in my own calling.
🛑 Takeaway: Jealousy grows when we forget who we are and why we were chosen.
Bitterness: The Slow Poison of the Soul
Bitterness doesn’t shout. It festers. It remembers every offense. It replays every slight. It justifies every insult as truth.
Jeff and Angelo’s unresolved frustrations boil over. Words become weapons. And when pride partners with pain, the result is explosive.
The green-eyed demoness didn’t implant new hate. She simply stirred the hate that was already hiding beneath the surface.
Reed's Wisdom: Bitterness blinds you to your mission and bonds you to your worst thoughts.
📖 Supporting Scripture: Hebrews 12:15 – "Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled."
✅ Declaration: I release all bitterness. I refuse to be chained by past wounds.
🛑 Takeaway: Bitterness affects more than just you. It contaminates every room you walk into.
When Jealousy and Rage Take Over
The most heartbreaking moment in Chapter 9 is not when fists fly or explosions rock the city. It’s when Angelo loses control.
His aura shifts from green to red. His words become daggers. He threatens to kill a fellow soldier.
This isn’t just anger. This is what happens when jealousy and rage have full reign. A hero becomes a hazard. A warrior becomes a weapon in the enemy’s hand.
Reed's Wisdom: You can be anointed and still be out of alignment.
📖 Supporting Scripture: Proverbs 14:30 – "A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones."
✅ Declaration: I will not let rage rule me. My strength is submitted to God.
🛑 Takeaway: Unchecked emotion can destroy your witness faster than your weakness ever could.
The Power of Clarity and Distance
It’s not until Monstrosity (Jeff’s transformed form) distances himself from the demoness that he begins to think clearly. The higher he flies, the more the fog lifts. And with clarity comes revelation:
They were being played.
She was using their jealousy against them.
Monstrosity chooses to break free. Not through brute force, but by removing himself from the environment that poisoned him.
Reed's Wisdom: Sometimes spiritual clarity only comes with emotional distance.
📖 Supporting Scripture: Psalm 139:23-24 – "Search me, O God, and know my heart... and see if there be any wicked way in me."
✅ Declaration: I rise above emotional manipulation. I choose clarity over chaos.
🛑 Takeaway: If you can’t hear God clearly, check your surroundings.
Restoration Through Humility
When Angelo finally sees the truth, his aura shifts again. This time to white.
He lowers his sword. He acknowledges his mistake. He apologizes.
It doesn’t erase the damage, but it opens the door to restoration.
Humility will always do what pride never can: rebuild what was broken.
Reed's Wisdom: Apology is not weakness. It’s a sign of strength under submission.
📖 Supporting Scripture: 1 Peter 5:6 – "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time."
✅ Declaration: I humble myself before God and others. Restoration is my portion.
🛑 Takeaway: Pride separates. Humility reconciles.
Final Thoughts: Don’t Feed the Monster
We all have the capacity to become something unrecognizable when we allow jealousy, bitterness, and comparison to lead. The monster within isn’t fed by battles. It’s fed by unhealed wounds and unchecked pride.
But there's hope.
When we step back, reflect, and ask God to reveal what’s really going on inside us, transformation begins. When we humble ourselves, apologize, forgive, and let go, we silence the demoness and all her green-eyed monsters.
Reed's Wisdom: The strongest warriors are the ones who master their emotions before they swing their swords.
📖 Closing Scripture: Galatians 5:26 – "Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other."
✅ Final Declaration: I am free from jealousy. I am healed from bitterness. I am restored through humility. The monster within me is defeated by the Spirit within me.
