Reed’s Reads of Wisdom Wednesdays™: The Enemy Knows Which Wound to Press— How God Can Turn Fear, Anger, Insecurity and Painful Memories Into Wisdom
Some attacks are not random. The enemy does not always come after the strongest part of you first. Sometimes he studies the places that still ache. He presses the wound that still makes you react. He touches the memory you have not fully healed from. He whispers to the fear you thought you had outgrown. He stirs the anger you thought you had under control. He tries to reopen what God is trying to restore.
That is why spiritual warfare is not only fought in front of us. Sometimes it is fought inside us.

It attacks memory. It attacks insecurity. It attacks the hidden places where pain still has a voice. Kevin Edwards a.k.a. Psalm 147:3 says, “He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.” That scripture reminds us that God does not ignore wounds. He heals them. He binds them. He covers them with care. He does not shame us for having broken places. He meets us there and begins the work of restoration. The enemy wants wounds to stay open so he can keep pressing them. God wants wounds healed so they can become wisdom.
The Enemy Studies Unhealed Places
The enemy is not creative, but he is observant. He pays attention to what makes people afraid, angry, ashamed, jealous, insecure or discouraged. He knows which memory can make someone freeze. He knows which accusation can make someone question their calling. He knows which loss can make someone pull away from others. He knows which disappointment can turn into bitterness if it is left untreated.
That is why the same attack often keeps showing up in different forms. If insecurity is the wound, the enemy may keep sending comparison. If anger is the wound, he may keep sending disrespect. If rejection is the wound, he may keep sending silence. If fear is the wound, he may keep sending images of failure. If grief is the wound, he may keep sending reminders that make the heart feel heavy all over again.
The goal is not just to hurt you. The goal is to control you through what hurt you.
A wound that is not healed can become a button the enemy keeps pressing. He wants you to react instead of respond. He wants you to speak from pain instead of wisdom. He wants you to make decisions from fear instead of faith. He wants the wound to become louder than God’s truth.
Fear Pressed Angelo’s Deepest Wound
Kevin’s battle with Fear in Book II is powerful because Fear does not attack him with something shallow. He does not simply show Angelo a monster, a battlefield or a physical threat. Fear shows Angelo one of the deepest terrors in his heart: the possibility of becoming like the Demon Master.
That is a spiritual attack on identity.
Kevin does not only fear death. He fears corruption. He fears power turning dark. He fears hurting the people he loves. He fears becoming the very evil he is called to fight. That wound is connected to the images the Demon Master placed in his mind, images that tried to convince him that darkness might be waiting in his future.
The enemy knew exactly where to press. He did not just attack Angelo’s body. He attacked Angelo’s sense of self. He tried to make Kevin distrust the light God placed inside him. He tried to make him believe that his future had already been poisoned. He tried to make fear feel like prophecy.
That is how the enemy works in real life too. He takes one fear and repeats it until it sounds like truth. He takes one painful image and plays it over and over. He takes one weakness and convinces you it is your identity. He takes one possibility and turns it into torment. He wants you to believe that what you fear most is what you are destined to become.
But fear is not God. Fear does not have the authority to name you.
Angelo Fought Back With Truth
What makes Angelo’s battle so important is that he begins to see through the lie. He realizes that Fear is not the master of his mind. He recognizes the manipulation. He understands that he is being attacked through illusion, memory and terror.
That is where victory begins. Sometimes the first step toward healing is recognizing that the voice pressing the wound is not the voice of God. God may convict, correct and reveal, but He does not torment His children into hopelessness. He does not heal by crushing identity. He does not restore by convincing us that darkness owns our future.
Fear says, “This is who you will become.”
Faith says, “God still has the final word.”
Fear says, “You cannot escape this.”
Faith says, “Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.”
Fear says, “The wound is your master.”
Faith says, “God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
Angelo’s strength is not only in fighting Fear physically. His strength is in refusing to let Fear define reality. He does not accept the lie just because it feels intense. He does not surrender his identity just because the vision is terrifying. He stands in the middle of the attack and begins fighting from truth.
That is a lesson for every reader. You cannot always stop fear from speaking, but you can refuse to let fear become your authority.
Jeff’s Wound Became Monstrosity
Jeff’s struggle with Monstrosity shows another side of this message. His wound was not only fear. His wound was anger, pride, jealousy, pain and the feeling of being overlooked.
Jeff had been fighting before Kevin and Juanita came to Dark Earth. He had risked his life. He had tried to save people. He had carried the burden of battle for years. He wanted to matter. He wanted to be seen. He wanted his sacrifice to count.
Those desires were not evil by themselves. But pain becomes dangerous when darkness twists it. Jeff’s wound told him he had been replaced. His anger told him he deserved more. His jealousy told him Angelo™ and Angeline™ had taken something from him. His pride told him he should not need help. His pain told him that if people did not recognize him properly, maybe he had to become something they could not ignore.
That is how Monstrosity becomes so powerful as a symbol. He is not just a creature. He is pain given form. He is anger with wings. He is jealousy enlarged. He is wounded pride turned monstrous.
The enemy knew which wound to press in Jeff. He pressed the feeling of being forgotten.
Pain Can Make Lies Feel Reasonable
One reason wounds are so dangerous is that they can make lies feel reasonable. A wounded person may say, “I am not angry. I am just tired of being disrespected.” A jealous person may say, “I am not jealous. I just know I deserve better.” A bitter person may say, “I am not bitter. I am just being realistic.” A fearful person may say, “I am not afraid. I am just protecting myself.”
Sometimes there is truth mixed into the pain. That is what makes the lie harder to recognize. Jeff really had fought hard. He really had carried responsibility. He really had experienced battles Kevin and Juanita did not fully understand at first. His pain had roots. But rooted pain still has to be surrendered. A wound may explain a reaction, but it does not excuse letting darkness take control.
That is one of the strongest lessons from Jeff’s journey.
God is compassionate toward our wounds, but He does not want wounds to rule us. He does not want anger to drive the car. He does not want insecurity to make the decisions. He does not want jealousy to write the story. He does not want fear to choose the future. He does not want pain to become lord over the heart.
Healing requires honesty. We have to admit not only that we were hurt, but also how the hurt has been shaping us.
Wiseman J Understood the Inner Battle
Wiseman J’s role matters because he sees what others may miss. He understands that Jeff is not simply a strong warrior with a staff. Jeff is also a man with spiritual and emotional issues that still need to be worked out. Wiseman J does not hate Jeff for that. He does not throw him away. But he also does not pretend the wound is harmless.
That is wisdom. Real love does not ignore danger just because it cares about someone. Real love can say, “I believe in you, but I also know there are places in you God still needs to heal.” Real love can pray, encourage, guide and correct. Real love can stand with someone without agreeing with everything pain has produced in them.
Wiseman J also tells Jeff to stay in control of his emotions, especially his anger, and reminds him that God will give him the strength he needs. That is not just good advice for Jeff. That is good advice for anyone whose wound has become a pressure point.
Anger may rise, but it does not have to rule.
Fear may speak, but it does not have to lead.
Insecurity may whisper, but it does not have to decide.
Pain may be present, but it does not have to become identity.
God Can Turn Wounds Into Wisdom
Psalm 147:3 does not say God mocks the brokenhearted. It says He heals them. It does not say He exposes wounds to embarrass people. It says He binds them up.
That means God handles wounds differently than the enemy. The enemy presses wounds to produce weakness. God touches wounds to produce healing. The enemy uses wounds to keep people trapped in old reactions. God heals wounds so people can walk in new wisdom. The enemy wants pain to become poison.
God can turn pain into discernment, compassion, maturity and testimony. A healed wound can teach you how to recognize danger without living in fear. A healed wound can make you compassionate toward others without letting them misuse you. A healed wound can give you patience for people who are still growing. A healed wound can help you speak with authority because you are not speaking from theory. You are speaking from survival, surrender and restoration.
That is what makes God’s healing so powerful. He does not waste pain that is placed in His hands.
Painful Memories Need God’s Healing Touch
Memories are powerful because they can keep bringing yesterday into today. One smell, one phrase, one place, one person’s tone, one image or one moment can awaken something old. Suddenly, the person is not only reacting to what is happening now. They are reacting to what happened then.
That is why some battles feel bigger than the moment in front of us. The argument may not only be about today’s words. It may be touching years of rejection. The fear may not only be about one decision. It may be touching an old failure. The anger may not only be about one insult. It may be touching a long history of being dismissed.
Kevin’s fear has history. Jeff’s anger has history. Their struggles are not shallow because their wounds are not shallow.
That is what makes them relatable. They remind us that heroes are not made stronger by pretending nothing hurts. They become stronger when they face what hurts and allow truth, faith and healing to meet them there.
Do Not Let the Wound Become Your Name
One of the enemy’s greatest tricks is trying to rename people after their wounds.
If you were rejected, he wants you to call yourself unwanted.
If you failed, he wants you to call yourself failure.
If you were afraid, he wants you to call yourself coward.
If you were angry, he wants you to call yourself monster.
If you were hurt, he wants you to call yourself broken beyond repair.
But God does not name His children by their wounds.
Kevin is not the Demon Master. He is Angelo™, a Soldier of Light Against Darkness™. Jeff is not Monstrosity. He is Jeff: Ward of Law, a man still capable of courage, service, growth and redemption.
You are not what hurt you either. You may have been wounded, but you are not the wound. You may have been afraid, but you are not fear. You may have struggled with anger, but anger does not own your identity. You may have painful memories, but those memories do not get to become your master.
God is still able to heal what the enemy keeps trying to press.

The Pressed Wound Reveals the Place God Wants to Heal
Sometimes the place the enemy keeps attacking is the place God is inviting you to surrender.
If the enemy keeps pressing insecurity, God may be calling you to receive identity.
If the enemy keeps pressing anger, God may be calling you to receive peace and self-control.
If the enemy keeps pressing fear, God may be calling you to receive courage.
If the enemy keeps pressing grief, God may be calling you to receive comfort.
If the enemy keeps pressing shame, God may be calling you to receive grace.
That does not mean healing is instant or easy. Some wounds take time. Some memories need prayer, counsel, support and honest conversations. Some pain has to be processed slowly because it has been buried deeply. But the beautiful promise of Psalm 147:3 is that God is willing to heal what still hurts.
He does not require you to pretend. He invites you to bring the wound to Him.
What This Means for Us
Many people are walking around with wounds the enemy knows how to press. They may look strong, but certain words still cut deep. They may smile in public, but certain memories still ache in private. They may serve others faithfully, but certain fears still whisper at night. They may love God, but still struggle with anger, insecurity, grief or shame.
That does not make them fake. It makes them human.
The question is not whether wounds exist. The question is who gets access to them. If darkness gets access, wounds can become bitterness, fear, pride, jealousy and isolation. If God gets access, wounds can become wisdom, compassion, discernment, humility and testimony.
Kevin had to confront Fear. Jeff had to confront Monstrosity. Both journeys remind us that healing is part of the battle. It is not separate from spiritual warfare. It is one of the ways God teaches His people to stand stronger.
The wound the enemy keeps pressing may be the place God wants to heal next.
Declarations for the One With Pressed Wounds
Speak these over your life:
God can heal the places that still hurt.
The enemy does not get to use my wounds against me forever.
Fear will not be my master.
Anger will not become my identity.
Insecurity will not decide my future.
Painful memories will not control my obedience.
God can turn my wounds into wisdom.
I can be honest about my pain and still walk in faith.
I am not what happened to me.
I am still called, loved, healed and useful in God’s hands.
Final Thoughts
The enemy knows which wound to press.He knows where fear still whispers. He knows where anger still rises. He knows where insecurity still aches. He knows which painful memories can make you question yourself, your calling, your future and your identity.
But God knows those places too. The difference is that the enemy presses wounds to weaken you, while God touches wounds to heal you. The enemy wants pain to control your future. God wants healing to shape your wisdom. The enemy wants your wound to become your name. God wants your wound to become part of your testimony.
Angelo™ and Jeff remind us that some of the greatest battles happen where nobody else can see. They happen in the mind, in the heart, in the memory and in the identity of a person who has been hurt but is still being healed.
Do not be ashamed of the places that still need healing.
Bring them to God.
Let Him bind what is broken.
Let Him strengthen what is weak.
Let Him turn what hurt you into wisdom that helps you stand, grow, serve and shine.
Because the wound the enemy keeps pressing may be the very place where God is preparing your next victory.
