Reed’s Reads of Wisdom Wednesdays™: The Light You Carry Will Cost You Something— Why Carrying God-Given Purpose Brings Responsibility, Opposition and Sacrifice

Light is powerful, but light is not cheap. That is one of the strongest truths running through S.O.L.A.D.™: Soldiers of Light Against Darkness™: The Angelo™ & Angeline™ Chronicles. Kevin Edwards and Juanita Grayson are chosen to become Angelo™ and Angeline™, but their calling is not handed to them like a prize with no pressure attached. Their light comes with responsibility. Their purpose comes with danger. Their strength comes with sacrifice. Their calling places them in direct conflict with darkness that does not want to be challenged.

That is how purpose works. Many people want the glow without the cost. They want the gift without the responsibility. They want the title without the training. They want the blessing without the burden. They want the light, but they do not always want the opposition that comes when that light starts exposing darkness.

But the truth is this: if God gives you light, He expects you to carry it somewhere that needs it. Luke 9:23 says, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”

That scripture reminds us that following God is not just about receiving comfort. It is about surrender. It is about obedience. It is about daily sacrifice. It is about choosing purpose over convenience, service over selfishness and faithfulness over fear.

Light Attracts Opposition

Angelo™ and Angeline™ do not receive their power in a peaceful world. They are not chosen in a place where everything is safe, calm and easy. They are called in the middle of danger. Demon dogs are attacking. Melanie’s life is in jeopardy. Dark Earth is under oppression. The Demon Master’s shadow is everywhere. People need help immediately.

Their light is not decorative. It is necessary. That is a powerful lesson because some people think opposition means they are outside the will of God. They think if something is hard, it must not be their assignment. They think if resistance shows up, they must have made a wrong turn. But sometimes opposition comes because you are exactly where light is needed.

Darkness does not applaud light. Darkness resists it. When Angelo™ and Angeline™ step into their calling, they also step into conflict. Their presence becomes a threat to what darkness has controlled. Their light exposes evil. Their courage interrupts oppression. Their obedience gives people hope. That kind of light will always be challenged.

Carrying Light Means Carrying Responsibility

Kevin and Juanita are not chosen just so they can feel special. They are chosen because people need saving. Their rings, weapons, powers and names all come with responsibility attached. Angelo™ and Angeline™ are not only identities. They are assignments.

That matters. A calling is not just something we celebrate. It is something we must carry. When God places light in a person, He also entrusts that person with how the light will be used. Will it serve others? Will it protect others? Will it encourage others? Will it shine in hard places? Or will it be hidden because the cost feels too heavy?

Angelo™ and Angeline™ remind us that purpose is not about ego. It is not about being admired. It is not about being seen as powerful. It is about being willing to stand where others are vulnerable and say, “Darkness does not get the final word here.” That kind of responsibility is heavy. But it is holy.

The Cost of Light Is Sacrifice

Sacrifice is woven into the S.O.L.A.D.™ journey. The team cannot fight darkness while holding tightly to comfort. They cannot protect others while only thinking about themselves. They cannot carry the mission and still live as if nothing is required of them.

Angelo™ has to sacrifice the safety of a normal life. Angeline™ has to sacrifice the comfort of staying outside the fight. Jeff sacrifices again and again when he steps into danger for people who cannot protect themselves. Wiseman J sacrifices peace, ease and personal safety because he understands the mission. Melanie’s courage reminds us that even those without powers can still give everything they have for what they believe in.

That is what makes light costly.

  • It asks something of the person carrying it.

  • It asks for courage when fear is present.

  • It asks for obedience when comfort would be easier.

  • It asks for love when selfishness would feel safer.

  • It asks for faith when the path ahead is dangerous.

  • It asks for endurance when the battle lasts longer than expected.

Luke 9:23 does not say take up your cross once. It says take it up daily. That means sacrifice is not always a single dramatic moment. Sometimes it is the daily decision to keep following God, keep serving people, keep resisting darkness and keep shining when quitting would be easier.

The Light You Carry May Interrupt the Life You Planned

Kevin and Juanita had lives before Dark Earth. They had plans, emotions, questions, dreams and personal struggles. They were not looking for a supernatural war. They were not searching for demons to fight. They did not wake up hoping to be pulled into another world’s suffering.

But purpose often interrupts what we planned. That does not mean God does not care about our lives. It means His purpose is bigger than our comfort zone. He sees people we do not see. He hears cries we do not hear. He knows where our gifts, experiences, compassion and courage are needed before we fully understand why He placed them inside us.

Sometimes God interrupts our plans because someone else’s deliverance is connected to our obedience. That is a hard truth, but it is also beautiful. It means our lives are not random. It means our strength has assignment. It means our light has direction. It means our obedience can become hope for people we never expected to help.

You Cannot Carry Light and Avoid Darkness Forever

A Soldier of Light Against Darkness™ cannot avoid darkness forever. That does not mean chasing danger foolishly or living without wisdom. It means understanding that light was made to confront darkness, not hide from it. A lamp does not fulfill its purpose under a basket. A candle does not matter much if it is never lit. A calling does not bear fruit if it is buried under fear.

Angelo™ and Angeline™ do not become powerful by avoiding every hard place. They grow because they enter hard places with faith, courage and the willingness to serve. Their light becomes meaningful because it shines where darkness has tried to rule.

That is a message for real life too. You may carry light into your family. You may carry light into your church. You may carry light into your workplace. You may carry light into your friendships. You may carry light into your writing, ministry, business, community or testimony. Wherever God sends you, there may be darkness, resistance, misunderstanding or pressure.

But do not let the presence of darkness convince you that your light does not belong there.

Your light may be exactly why God placed you there.

Opposition Does Not Mean You Should Dim Yourself

Some people start shining until the criticism comes. They start obeying until the pressure comes. They start serving until people misunderstand them. They start walking in purpose until the attacks get personal. Then they begin to wonder if maybe they should pull back, stay quiet, become smaller or make themselves easier for others to accept.

But opposition is not permission to dim what God placed inside you. Angelo™ and Angeline™ cannot afford to dim their light just because darkness fights back. People are depending on them. The mission matters. The battle is bigger than their comfort. Their calling requires them to keep standing even when fear, grief, exhaustion and opposition try to make them shrink.

That is not easy. But light was never called to negotiate with darkness. It was called to shine.

Responsibility Requires Maturity

Carrying light requires more than power. It requires maturity. Angelo™ cannot allow fear to control how he uses his strength. Angeline™ cannot allow reluctance to keep her from responsibility. Jeff cannot allow anger, pride or pain to govern his gift. Wiseman J cannot allow grief or pressure to silence his wisdom. Every person connected to the mission has to grow because the light they carry affects others.

That is why spiritual maturity matters. A gifted person without maturity can harm people. A strong person without humility can become dangerous. A courageous person without wisdom can become reckless. A wounded person without healing can use strength in ways that damage others.

God does not only want us to have light. He wants us to carry it well. That means prayer. That means surrender. That means correction. That means discipline. That means learning when to speak, when to wait, when to fight, when to listen and when to let God work on the parts of us that still need healing.

The Cross Is Daily

Luke 9:23 gives us a daily picture of discipleship.Jesus does not describe a faith that only shows up when it is convenient. He describes a life of denying self, taking up the cross daily and following Him. That means there will be days when obedience costs pride. Days when love costs comfort. Days when forgiveness costs the right to stay offended. Days when serving costs convenience. Days when faith costs fear its favorite hiding place.

That is the kind of cost S.O.L.A.D.™ points us toward. The light God gives you is not meant to make you comfortable in darkness. It is meant to make you faithful in the face of it. That faithfulness is daily. It is not only the big battle everyone sees. It is also the private choices nobody applauds.

  • It is choosing not to quit.

  • It is choosing to pray.

  • It is choosing to serve.

  • It is choosing to forgive.

  • It is choosing to protect.

  • It is choosing to keep your heart clean.

  • It is choosing to carry the light even when the cross feels heavy.

Sacrifice Does Not Mean God Has Forgotten You

Sometimes when people hear the word sacrifice, they only think of loss. They think serving God means being drained, overlooked, exhausted or forgotten. But God does not call people into sacrifice because He wants to destroy them. He calls them into surrender because He wants their lives to carry eternal purpose.

Sacrifice in God’s hands is never meaningless. When Angelo™ and Angeline™ stand against darkness, their sacrifice matters because lives are connected to it. When Jeff risks himself for others, his sacrifice matters. When Wiseman J continues to guide, believe and fight through loss, his sacrifice matters. When Melanie acts with courage despite not having the same powers as the others, her sacrifice matters.

God sees sacrifice. He sees the prayers nobody heard. He sees the tears nobody noticed. He sees the obedience that cost you something. He sees the times you wanted to walk away but stayed faithful. He sees the moments you chose what was right when what was easy was available.

Carrying light may cost you something, but it is never wasted when it is surrendered to God.

The Greater the Light, the Greater the Assignment

There is a reason darkness pushes back against people who carry purpose. The greater the light, the greater the threat to what darkness wants to keep hidden.

Angelo™ and Angeline™ become targets because their light matters. Their calling disrupts the enemy’s plans. Their presence gives others hope. Their courage begins to change the atmosphere around them. They are not attacked because they are meaningless. They are attacked because they are dangerous to darkness.

That is a powerful word for anyone who has wondered why the battle became heavier after they started obeying God.

  • Sometimes the battle intensifies because your light is growing.

  • Sometimes resistance increases because your obedience is becoming more serious.

  • Sometimes the enemy pushes harder because he recognizes that God is using you to interrupt something he wanted to control.

  • Do not mistake resistance for rejection.

  • Sometimes resistance is evidence that your light is touching something darkness wanted to keep.

What This Means for Us

This message is not only about Angelo™, Angeline™, Dark Earth, demons, dragons, rings and swords. It is about every person God has called to carry light in real life.

  • Maybe God gave you strength because your family needs someone who will stand.

  • Maybe God gave you wisdom because someone needs counsel.

  • Maybe God gave you a testimony because someone needs hope.

  • Maybe God gave you creativity because someone needs to see truth through story.

  • Maybe God gave you compassion because someone near you feels forgotten.

  • Maybe God gave you leadership because something broken needs rebuilding.

Do not be surprised when carrying that light costs you something. It may cost time. It may cost comfort. It may cost popularity. It may cost convenience. It may require patience, humility, endurance, forgiveness and courage. But if God gave you the light, He will also give you the grace to carry it.

You were not called to blend into darkness. You were called to shine.

Declaration for the One Carrying Light

Speak this over your life:

  • I will not hide the light God placed inside me just because carrying it costs something.

  • I will follow God daily, even when obedience stretches me, service requires sacrifice and opposition tries to make me shrink.

  • My light is not for pride, performance or comfort; it is for purpose, service and the glory of God.

  • I will carry what He gave me with humility, courage, wisdom and faith.

  • I will not let darkness silence me, fear stop me or pressure make me forget who sent me.

  • If God gave me light, He will give me strength to carry it.

Final Thoughts

The light you carry will cost you something. That is not meant to scare you. It is meant to prepare you. Carrying light is powerful, but it also brings responsibility, opposition and sacrifice. It may interrupt your plans. It may stretch your comfort zone. It may place you in battles you did not expect. It may require you to grow faster, pray deeper, stand longer and trust God more fully.

Angelo™ and Angeline™ remind us that light is not just something we admire. It is something we carry into darkness. Their calling shows us that God-given purpose is never meant to be wasted on comfort alone. It is meant to serve, protect, encourage, deliver and shine where hope is needed most.

Luke 9:23 reminds us that following God requires daily surrender. We deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him. That kind of faith is not always easy, but it is always meaningful when God is leading.

Do not run from the cost. Ask God for the strength to carry the light well. Because somewhere, someone needs the hope, courage, wisdom, faith and purpose God placed inside you.
