“Faith is not the belief that God will do what you want. It is the belief that God will do what is right.” – Max Lucado
Fog. It clouds our judgment. It blurs our vision. It tempts us to turn back. And yet, it is in the fog—both literal and figurative—where faith is truly tested and forged.
In Chapter 1 of Book I of S.O.L.A.D.™: Soldiers of Light Against Darkness™, we meet Jeff, also known as "Jeff: Ward of Law," dangling from the side of a demonic fortress, surrounded by dense fog and darkness. With only a whisper from his mentor, Wiseman J, and the static of a failing connection, Jeff must press on. He doesn’t have all the answers. He doesn’t even have a clear path forward. But he has a mission, and more importantly, he has faith.
Climbing Into Darkness: Courage When the Outcome is Unclear
“This is suicide and I’m not even trying to kill myself.”
Jeff's inner monologue captures the intensity of this moment. His fear is real. His uncertainty is valid. And yet, he climbs.
Reflection: How many times in our lives have we felt this way? We’ve been called to assignments, challenges, or responsibilities that make no earthly sense. We don’t see the way out. We barely see the way in. And yet, we are still called to go. Jeff’s climb up the demonic fortress wall is a metaphor for every season where you feel like God is asking you to do the impossible with very little clarity.
Biblical Parallel: Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) reminds us: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
Faith is choosing to keep climbing when you can’t see the top—and trusting that if God sent you, He will guide you.
God in the Static: Hearing God When His Voice is Faint
Jeff’s only connection to the outside world is Wiseman J. But that line begins to crackle and fade just when things get intense.
Many of us have had moments where God seems quiet. The signal feels weak. The voice that once boomed with clarity now seems to whisper in static.
Encouragement: Don’t confuse silence with absence. God’s presence isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s a still, small voice—like Elijah encountered in the cave (1 Kings 19:11-12).
In those moments of quiet, ask yourself: What was the last thing God told me? That’s where your obedience begins.
Into the Fire: Responding with Righteous Anger
Jeff's reaction to the horrors inside the castle—the suffering of innocent people, the demonic torture—ignites a righteous fury in him. He doesn’t just get angry. He acts.
There is a place for righteous anger in the believer’s walk. Jesus Himself flipped tables in the temple (Matthew 21:12-13). He wept at the tomb of Lazarus. He rebuked storms, spirits, and systems.
Declaration: I will not be passive when injustice reigns. I will fight for those who are bound, even if it costs me everything.
Jeff’s anger was not rooted in hate. It was rooted in compassion and justice. And that’s the kind of fire God can use.
The Cost of the Call: When Deliverance Doesn’t Come Quickly
Jeff watches helplessly as the villagers he sought to save are pulled into hellholes and transformed into demons.
Real Talk: Not every battle ends in immediate victory. Sometimes, even when you’ve done everything right, the outcome looks like failure. But God sees the whole story.
Lesson: Don’t give up just because the first attempt didn’t work. Jeff almost aborted the mission—but he didn’t. He chose to keep going. That’s faith.
Scripture to Stand On: Galatians 6:9 (NLT): “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”
Surrounded But Not Stopped: Standing in the Midst of Demonic Opposition
Jeff, surrounded by demons, refused to back down. Even when it seemed like the demons were regenerating faster than he could fight, he kept swinging.
How often does life feel like that? Every problem you solve gives birth to three more. Every prayer you pray seems to stir more warfare. But Jeff's determination teaches us: just because you're surrounded doesn’t mean you’re defeated.
Declaration: I am more than a conqueror through Christ. Though I am surrounded, I am protected. Though I am pressed, I will not be crushed. (Romans 8:37, 2 Corinthians 4:8)
Help is on the Way: Trusting in Divine Timing
When Wiseman J finally arrives in the white SUV, it’s right on time. Jeff couldn’t see him through the fog, but J had never stopped moving toward him.
Encouragement: Even if you can’t see it, help is coming. God has already dispatched what you need. Sometimes the fog blocks our view—but it doesn’t block God’s movement.
Wiseman J’s arrival mirrors how God often shows up: not early, but never late.
The Eyes That Watch: Knowing You’re Being Targeted for a Reason
The chapter ends with the ominous red eyes of the Demon Master watching from the sky, followed by the booming accusation: “YOUUUUUUUU!!!”
Wiseman J points forward and declares, “He’s coming for you, and when he gets here, he’s going to defeat you!”
That’s not fear. That’s faith in action. It’s declaring your enemy’s downfall before the fight begins.
Reflection: If the enemy is watching you, targeting you, and trying to stop you—it’s because you’re dangerous to him. You are called. You are anointed. You are a threat.
Declare Today: I am a warrior of light. I am a soldier of righteousness. I will not shrink back. I am chosen, and no darkness can stop my destiny.
Final Thought: Keep Moving Through the Fog
Fog is temporary. Faith is eternal. And if you stay the course, like Jeff, you’ll not only come out victorious—you’ll rescue others along the way.
Let This Be Your Prayer:
Lord, when I can’t see what’s ahead, help me to trust You. Strengthen me when I’m tired. Speak to me when I feel alone. Let me remember that fog is not the end—it’s just a stretch of the road where I must walk by faith and not by sight. Amen.
“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Let Jeff’s courage challenge yours. Let Wiseman J’s trust in the unseen guide your perspective. Let the fog be your training ground—not your tomb.
Now get up, take that next step, and keep walking by faith.
