Reed’s Reads of Wisdom Wednesdays™: You Were Not Given Strength Just to Save Yourself—Why God Gives Gifts, Power and Purpose for Service, Sacrifice and Responsibility
Strength is a blessing, but it is also a responsibility. That is one of the deepest truths running through S.O.L.A.D.™: Soldiers of Light Against Darkness™: The Angelo™ & Angeline™ Chronicles. Angelo™ and Angeline™ were not given power so they could build comfortable lives and ignore the suffering around them. They were not given their rings, weapons, abilities and calling just so they could protect themselves and walk away from everyone else’s pain.
They were given strength because others needed help. They were given light because darkness had swallowed too many lives. They were given purpose because there were people who could not defeat the enemy on their own.
That is a powerful spiritual lesson because many people want strength without responsibility. They want gifts without service. They want blessings without burden. They want purpose without sacrifice. But God does not give us strength just so we can admire ourselves. He gives us strength so we can lift, protect, encourage, cover, defend, build, serve and help somebody else keep going.
Philippians 2:4 says, “Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”
That scripture is not telling us to ignore our own lives. It is telling us not to become so consumed with our own comfort that we forget the people around us. It reminds us that strength becomes holy when it looks beyond itself.
Strength Was Never Meant to Become Selfish
One of the greatest temptations in life is to use strength only for personal survival. When people have been hurt, disappointed, rejected or exhausted, it can be easy to think, “I am just going to take care of me.” At some level, that is understandable. People need healing. People need rest. People need boundaries. People need time to recover from battles that almost broke them.
But healing should not make us selfish. Rest should not make us indifferent.
Boundaries should not make us blind to people God may be asking us to help. There is a difference between protecting your peace and refusing to care. There is a difference between taking time to heal and making your life only about yourself. There is a difference between wisdom and selfishness.
God strengthens us so we can stand. But after we stand, He often asks us to reach back and help someone else rise.
That is the heartbeat of S.O.L.A.D.™. Angelo™ and Angeline™ are not heroes because they have power. They are heroes because they choose to use that power for others.
Angelo™ Shows Strength Through Protection
Kevin Edwards becomes Angelo™, but his strength is not just in his sword, speed, flight or purity bombs. His strength is in his heart. He is powerful because he cares. He does not look at people in danger and treat them like interruptions. He does not look at a city under attack and decide that his own safety matters more than everyone else’s survival.
He steps forward. That matters because true strength is not only measured by what you can defeat. It is also measured by who you are willing to protect.
Angelo™ fights demons, dragons and darkness, but he also fights fear, insecurity and the temptation to believe he is not enough. That makes his service more meaningful. He is not serving because he has no fear. He is serving because people still need help while fear is trying to speak.
That is a word for somebody today. You do not have to feel fearless to serve. You do not have to feel fully confident to help. You do not have to have every answer before you become useful in God’s hands. Sometimes service begins when you are still trembling but choose obedience anyway.
Angelo™ reminds us that strength is not about standing above people. It is about standing between people and the darkness trying to destroy them.
Angeline™ Shows Strength Through Sacrifice
Juanita Grayson becomes Angeline™, and her strength is powerful because it grows through responsibility. She does not always want the burden. She does not always feel ready for the fight. She gets tired. She gets overwhelmed. She feels the pressure of what is being asked of her.
But she keeps showing up.
That is one of the reasons Angeline™ matters so much. Her strength is not shallow. It is not easy. It costs her something. She has to hold force fields when her body is tired. She has to fight when fear is present. She has to protect others when walking away might feel easier. She has to grow into a role she did not ask for but cannot ignore.
That kind of strength is real. Some people think strength means never getting tired. But sometimes strength means continuing to care when you are tired. Sometimes strength means admitting you need help but not abandoning the mission. Sometimes strength means holding the line until someone can stand beside you.
Angeline™ reminds us that service is not always convenient. Sometimes it stretches you. Sometimes it drains you. Sometimes it reveals the limits of your own strength so God can show you that you were never meant to carry the burden alone.
“Not Alone, You Can’t”

It means refusing to let people drown beside you while you pretend not to see the water rising.

That is how real strength should work. It should not isolate people. It should help carry people.
Gifts Are Tools, Not Trophies
God-given gifts are not trophies to be displayed. They are tools to be used. That is an important distinction. A trophy says, “Look what I have.” A tool says, “What can I build?” A trophy draws attention to the person holding it. A tool gets placed into service. A trophy can sit on a shelf and collect praise. A tool has to be picked up, carried, sharpened and used for purpose.
Angelo™’s sword is not decoration.
Angeline™’s sais are not ornaments.
Their rings are not jewelry for status.
Their abilities are not meant for applause.
Everything they carry is connected to responsibility.
That is how we should see our own gifts. Your voice is not just for you. Your wisdom is not just for you. Your testimony is not just for you. Your creativity is not just for you. Your strength, compassion, discernment, leadership, discipline and faith are not just for you.
Somebody needs what God placed inside you.
Somebody needs the encouragement you can give.
Somebody needs the prayer you can pray.
Somebody needs the wisdom you learned through suffering.
Somebody needs the door you can open.
Somebody needs the help you can provide.
Somebody needs the light you were tempted to hide.
You were not given strength just to save yourself.
Comfort Cannot Be the Highest Goal
There is nothing wrong with wanting peace. There is nothing wrong with wanting stability. There is nothing wrong with wanting a safe home, a healed heart, a sound mind and a life that is not always filled with crisis. Those are good things.
But comfort cannot become the highest goal of a person who carries purpose. If Angelo™ and Angeline™ had only cared about comfort, Dark Earth would have remained oppressed. If they had only cared about their own safety, people would have continued suffering. If they had only cared about going home, they would have missed the reason God sent them in the first place.
Purpose often interrupts comfort.
That is not always what we want to hear, but it is true. God may call us to speak when silence would be easier. He may call us to help when walking away would be more convenient. He may call us to serve when we feel tired. He may call us to forgive when pride wants to stay offended. He may call us to stand when fear wants us to hide.
Comfort asks, “What will this cost me?” Purpose asks, “Who will this help?” That question changes everything.
Responsibility Comes With the Calling
Many people want the blessing of being chosen but not the burden of responsibility. They want the title, but not the sacrifice. They want the influence, but not the accountability. They want the strength, but not the service.
But calling is not only about what God gives you. It is also about what God entrusts to you. Angelo™ and Angeline™ are entrusted with power, but also with people. They are entrusted with abilities, but also with a mission. They are entrusted with strength, but also with the responsibility to use that strength wisely.
That is why spiritual maturity matters. Immature strength can become dangerous. Immature gifts can become self-centered. Immature leadership can become prideful. Immature influence can harm the people it was meant to help.
God does not only want us gifted. He wants us surrendered. He wants our strength under His authority. He wants our hearts aligned with His compassion. He wants our gifts used for His glory and the good of others. He wants us to understand that what He placed in us is not meant to make us superior. It is meant to make us useful.
Service Is Not Weakness
The world often teaches people to see service as weakness. It tells us to look out for ourselves first, build our own name, protect our own platform and make sure we get credit. It teaches people to view humility as losing and sacrifice as foolishness.
But the Kingdom of God teaches something different. Jesus showed us that true greatness is connected to service. He healed, fed, taught, washed feet, carried burdens and gave His life. He had all power, yet He used His power to save others.
That is the pattern. Strength does not become less powerful when it serves. Strength becomes more Christlike when it serves.
Angelo™ and Angeline™ are strongest when they are not thinking only of themselves. Their greatest moments come when they are protecting others, standing together, covering the city, rescuing the vulnerable and refusing to let darkness have the final word.
That is not weakness. That is strength with purpose.
The Strong Must Still Depend on God
Another important truth is that strength does not mean independence from God. Angelo™ may be powerful, but he still prays. Angeline™ may be strong, but she still needs help. Jeff may be battle-tested, but he still needs healing and control. Wiseman J may be wise, but he still walks by faith. Melanie may be courageous, but she still needs protection and support.
Every member of the team shows us that human strength has limits. That is why God must remain the source. When we forget God, strength can turn into pride. When we forget God, service can turn into performance. When we forget God, gifts can become idols. When we forget God, helping others can become a way to prove ourselves instead of a way to love people.
But when strength stays surrendered to God, it becomes clean. It becomes focused. It becomes compassionate. It becomes disciplined. It becomes useful for the Kingdom.
That is the kind of strength we should want. Not strength that makes us proud. Strength that makes us faithful.
Your Strength May Be Someone Else’s Shelter
There are people who need the strength God gave you.
Not so they can use you.
Not so they can drain you.
Not so they can avoid their own growth.
But because God often uses people to protect, encourage and strengthen one another. Your strength may be someone else’s shelter in a stormy season. Your wisdom may be someone else’s warning before they make a destructive decision. Your testimony may be someone else’s proof that survival is possible. Your prayer may be someone else’s covering when they do not have words for themselves. Your kindness may be the first light someone has seen in a long time.
That is why we cannot become selfish with what God has given us.
Somebody needs you to keep growing.
Somebody needs you to keep healing.
Somebody needs you to keep obeying.
Somebody needs you to keep shining.
The strength God gives you is not only about what you can survive. It is also about who you can help because you survived.
Do Not Waste Strength on Pride
One of the dangers of strength is pride. When people become aware of what they can do, they can begin to believe their gifts make them better than others. They can start serving for applause instead of love. They can start helping only when it benefits their image. They can start using strength to control instead of protect.
That is not God’s way. Strength must stay humble to remain holy.
The S.O.L.A.D.™ team works because their mission is bigger than any one person’s ego. Angelo™ cannot do everything alone. Angeline™ cannot do everything alone. Jeff cannot do everything alone. Wiseman J cannot do everything alone. Melanie matters even without the same level of power because the mission requires more than muscle.
It requires heart.
It requires wisdom.
It requires courage.
It requires compassion.
It requires unity.
When strength is submitted to purpose, it protects. When strength is submitted to pride, it becomes dangerous.
What This Means for Us
This message is not only about fictional heroes fighting demons. It is about real people living with real responsibilities.
God may have given you strength to help your family. He may have given you wisdom to guide someone younger. He may have given you creativity to inspire people. He may have given you a testimony to encourage those who feel hopeless. He may have given you leadership to build something that outlives you. He may have given you compassion because someone near you needs to know they are not alone.
Do not shrink from that.
Do not bury what God placed inside you.
Do not let comfort convince you that your strength has no assignment.
You are allowed to rest. You are allowed to heal. You are allowed to have boundaries. You are allowed to be honest when you are tired. But do not confuse rest with retreating from purpose forever. Do not confuse boundaries with refusing to love. Do not confuse self-care with self-centeredness.
God gives strength with purpose attached. Use it well.
Declarations for the One Carrying Strength
Speak these over your life:
I was not given strength just to save myself.
My gifts are tools for service, not trophies for pride.
God can use what He placed in me to help others.
I will not let comfort become greater than calling.
I will serve without needing applause.
I will protect what God has assigned me to protect.
I will use my strength with humility, wisdom and love.
I will look out for the interests of others.
I will not waste my gifts on selfishness.
My light has responsibility attached to it.
Final Thoughts
You were not given strength just to save yourself. That is a hard truth, but it is also a beautiful one. It means your life has purpose beyond survival. It means your gifts have assignment beyond personal comfort. It means your testimony can help somebody else breathe again. It means your wisdom can keep someone from falling into the same trap. It means your light can push back darkness in places you may not have expected to stand.
Angelo™ and Angeline™ remind us that power without service is incomplete. Strength without sacrifice is shallow. Purpose without responsibility is immature. The call to be a Soldier of Light Against Darkness™ is not about carrying light for decoration. It is about carrying light into places where darkness has tried to take over.

God has strengthened you for a reason.
Use that strength to serve.
