Reed's Reads of Wisdom Wednesdays™: "I’m Not Him": Rejecting the Lies That Tie You to the Past

ree

"You’ll be just like him. You were born for this. You can’t escape it."

Those are the lies that echoed through Angelo's mind as he sat unwillingly on the throne of the Demon Master. Bound by demonic manipulation, overwhelmed by a spiritual ambush, and tormented by fear, Angelo found himself staring into a version of his future that wasn’t his own. One rooted not in promise, but in a lie.

This was more than a nightmare.

This was a direct assault on his identity.

And it is the same kind of spiritual warfare many of us face every single day.

The Prophetic Lie: Becoming the Very Thing You Hate

In Chapter 8 of Book II of S.O.L.A.D.™, "City of F.E.A.R.: (False Evidence Appearing Real)," Angelo is mentally hijacked by a powerful demon named Fear who constructs a "Dread Reality" — a twisted realm where Angelo is made to believe he has embraced evil and taken the throne as the new Demon Master. His aura changes from white to red. His clothes transform into dark ceremonial robes. The crowd around him cheers as he is crowned a false king. He is powerless to move. Paralyzed. Watching a life he never wanted play out like destiny.

It’s the ultimate gaslighting of the soul.

Fear whispers what many have heard in their own lives:

  • "You’re just like your father."

  • "You’ll never be good enough."

  • "You were made for destruction."

  • "This is who you really are."

But it was a lie. A beautifully crafted, theatrically terrifying lie.

And somewhere deep inside himself, Angelo found the strength to say no.

The Power of Internal Rebellion

Even when stripped of his powers, Angelo knew something was wrong. He remembered his true identity. He questioned the reality he was being shown. He said what so many need to say:

"This is not who I am."

That inner rebellion was the beginning of his escape.

And you can do the same.

Because when the enemy tries to bind you with false prophecy, trauma, or generational cycles, you have every right to resist.

You don’t have to inherit your family's dysfunction. You don’t have to wear the labels others have placed on you. You don’t have to be who your abuser said you were.

You are not them.

Biblical Echoes: Breaking the Line

This moment in S.O.L.A.D.™ echoes the stories of men and women in Scripture who were told they would repeat the past:

  • Gideon was hiding in fear, believing he was the least in his family, but God called him mighty warrior (Judges 6:12).

  • Moses believed he was too broken, too flawed, and too rejected to be used, but God made him a deliverer (Exodus 3-4).

  • Joseph was thrown into a pit and prison, but he refused to become bitter. He didn’t become like his jealous brothers. He rose in mercy and power (Genesis 37-50).

  • Jesus Himself was accused of being demonic (John 8:48), born illegitimately (John 8:41), and constantly told He couldn’t be who He said He was.

And let’s not forget:

  • David, who was overlooked by his family, called too young, and later haunted by the failures of his household—yet still called a man after God’s heart.

  • Rahab, a prostitute in Jericho, whose past didn’t stop her from being used mightily by God (Joshua 2, Matthew 1:5).

  • Paul, who once persecuted Christians, but was transformed into one of the greatest apostles of all time (Acts 9).

Yet none of those lies stuck.

And they don’t have to stick to you either.

Declarations of Identity

Let’s make this personal.

Declare this with me today:

  • I am not the sum of my past mistakes.

  • I am not bound by generational curses.

  • I am not who the enemy says I am.

  • I am a child of God, chosen and anointed for victory.

  • I break every label, lie, and legacy that was not authored by my Heavenly Father.

  • I am the first in my bloodline to break cycles.

  • I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

  • I have been given new mercies every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).

Lessons from Angelo™

Angelo’s refusal to accept the Demon Master’s mantle teaches us several powerful lessons:

  1. You Can Reject What the Enemy Offers

Just because the world (or even your feelings) suggest a certain path doesn’t mean you have to walk it. Angelo was offered a throne, but he saw it for what it was: bondage.

  2. Your Mind is a Battlefield

The greatest spiritual attacks often come not in your circumstances, but in your thoughts. That’s why 2 Corinthians 10:5 says: "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."

  3. Victory Begins with Identity

The moment Angelo remembered who he really was, his sword and shield returned. His authority returned. He didn’t need someone else to fight Fear for him. He reclaimed the fight.

  4. You Are Not Doomed to Repeat the Past

Even if you came from dysfunction, even if you failed before, even if you were once weak or compromised — you are not doomed. You can be the cycle-breaker. The chain-ender. The new beginning.

  5. Even in Darkness, God is Speaking

God will remind you who you are in your darkest moments. Sometimes through Scripture. Sometimes through a friend. Sometimes through a whisper in your spirit. Be still and know He is speaking to you.

Let the Sword Speak

Ephesians 6:17 tells us to wield the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. So let’s speak some truth against those lies:

  • "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new is here!" (2 Corinthians 5:17)

  • "For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control." (2 Timothy 1:7)

  • "You did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’" (Romans 8:15)

  • "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus." (Romans 8:1)

  • "No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn." (Isaiah 54:17)

  • "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness." (Jeremiah 31:3)

Practical Steps to Breaking the Lie

  1. Identify the Lie – What voice or thought continues to haunt you? Write it down.

  2. Confront It With Truth – Find a verse or promise that contradicts that lie. Speak it daily.

  3. Build an Identity Wall – Write down who God says you are. Read it every morning.

  4. Surround Yourself With the Right Voices – Community matters. Isolation is the devil’s playground.

  5. Remember the Past, But Don’t Live There – Honor your testimony, but don’t become its prisoner.

Fear Has a Name, But It Has No Power

When Fear manifested, it tried to look familiar. It mocked Angelo. It pulled out every guilt and insecurity it could. But the moment Angelo remembered the truth — that this wasn’t real, and it wasn’t him — he got free.

Fear was exposed.

And defeated.

So the next time the enemy calls you by your shame, your past, your failure, or your father’s name — you tell him: "I’m not him. I’m redeemed. I’m restored. I’m chosen. And I’m armed for battle."

You don’t belong on the throne of a false destiny. You belong in the center of God’s purpose for your life. And no fear, demon, or accusation can rewrite that.
