Reed's Reads of Wisdom Wednesdays™: What’s Controlling You? The Power of Unchecked Jealousy

ree

Don’t Let the Enemy Use You Against Yourself

Chapter 9: "Green-Eyed Monsters" of Book II: S.O.L.A.D.™ is intense. Two allies—Angelo™ and Jeff: Ward of Law™—both chosen to defend the world, both deeply committed to the mission, end up nearly killing each other. Not because of betrayal, or demonic possession, or overt lies—but because of something quieter, sneakier, and far more familiar:

Jealousy.

Controlled by a green-eyed demoness, the emotions they thought they had mastered were used against them like weapons. Harsh words. Old wounds. Spiteful comparisons. The result? Chaos, destruction, and broken fellowship.

Sound familiar?

The enemy didn’t need to destroy them. He just needed to get them to destroy each other.

1. When Jealousy Wears a Familiar Face

"She’s using our jealousy of each other against us."

Jeff and Angelo have fought demons side by side, saved each other’s lives, and shared victories. Yet in a moment of weakness, they turned on each other. That’s how jealousy works—it doesn’t need logic to light the fire. Just an open door.

Biblical Example:

Saul and David — Saul loved David until David became more popular. (1 Samuel 18:7-9)

“Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands.”

One praise report turned admiration into assassination attempts.

Jealousy can hide in encouragement. It can twist compliments into threats. Be careful. The people you once fought beside can feel like enemies when you let comparison cloud your purpose.

2. Who’s Pulling Your Strings?

Jeff and Angelo weren’t acting out of purpose—they were being puppeted by a green-eyed demoness. She didn’t need to physically control them. She manipulated their insecurities.

Real-life parallel:

That coworker who gets the promotion you wanted. The friend who seems to always win.The sibling who gets more praise.

These are moments the enemy uses to whisper:

"You should be further than them.""Why not you?""You’re better—prove it."

And before you know it, you’re not competing against your past. You’re fighting your partner.

3. Godly Identity Is the Antidote

The turning point comes when Monstrosity (Jeff’s alternate form) separates himself from the demoness. Distance clears his mind. His spiritual identity re-emerges.

Romans 12:2 (NKJV):

“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Sometimes, spiritual clarity comes through separation. That might mean:

  • Stepping away from toxic comparison traps

  • Deleting social media for a season

  • Spending time in worship, not whining

We can’t defeat demons if we’re dancing with the insecurities they ride in on.

4. Collaboration Over Competition

"She’s trying to control us."

When Monstrosity shares his vision, Angelo sees the enemy clearly. But it took vulnerability.

Jeff had to say: "Hey, we’re being used."Angelo had to listen.

In your own life, you might need to:

  • Admit you're not thinking clearly

  • Confess you're letting emotions lead

  • Let someone else help you regain perspective

Unity exposes what pride protects.

5. Recognizing When You’re Not Yourself

Angelo's aura changes. His tone turns harsh. His words get venomous.

"I’m so much better than you."

Ever said something in anger and later thought: "Where did that come from?"

Jealousy doesn’t just distort how you see others—it warps how you see yourself. You begin to define your worth by your wins instead of your walk.

Declare:

  • I am enough without competing.

  • I am chosen without comparison.

  • I am complete in Christ.

6. Forgiveness Is the Real Superpower

Even after all the blows and name-calling, Angelo apologizes:

"Jeff, I’m sorry. I lost it really bad. I was going to kill you."

And Jeff (Monstrosity) says:

"It’s okay. I probably would’ve done the same."

Sometimes, forgiveness doesn’t come after the pain. It comes with it.

Forgiveness restores your focus. It ends side quests with side eyes. It re-centers your eyes on the mission.

7. Application: Is Jealousy Running You?

Ask yourself:

  • Do I secretly celebrate someone’s failure?

  • Do I feel small when others succeed?

  • Do I downplay others' wins to feel better about myself?

These aren’t personality quirks. These are spiritual vulnerabilities the enemy exploits.

Get honest. Get free.

1 Peter 2:1 (NKJV):

“Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking…”

8. Green Eyes Are a Warning Light

The color green in this chapter isn’t just flair. It symbolizes:

  • Envy

  • Manipulation

  • Poisoned perception

Every time you see Angelo or Jeff’s aura shift green, it’s a warning. Something has shifted.

Likewise, in your own life, if your attitude changes when someone else walks in the room—pay attention.

9. Declarations for Deliverance

Say these aloud and mean them:

  • I will not let jealousy destroy divine connection.

  • I will celebrate, not compete.

  • I am secure in my assignment.

  • I will not be manipulated by emotions.

  • I fight for unity, not applause.

  • I cancel every lie of comparison.

10. Final Encouragement: Fight Together or Fall Apart

In S.O.L.A.D.™, battles are rarely won alone. The heroes need each other. Even when their pride tells them otherwise.

You are not the only light-bearer. God surrounded you with others not to compare—but to complete.

If the enemy can divide you, he can defeat you.

But when you recognize the trap, forgive quickly, call it out, and recalibrate?

You become unstoppable.
