But every response is not wisdom. Some conversations are traps. Some arguments are distractions. Some accusations are bait. Some people are not looking for truth. They are looking for access to your peace. They want your reaction more than they want understanding. They want to pull you out of character so they can point to your response and ignore what provoked it. That is why self-control is part of spiritual warfare.

Writers love the comeback, and we should. Readers love the comeback too. We love when the hero rises, when the music swells, when the broken warrior picks up the sword again, when the athlete steps back into the ring, when the mother keeps searching, when the detective opens the cold case one more time, when the superhero remembers who they are, and when the person at rock bottom finally stands up. But the comeback only hits hard if the quitting felt real.

Some are given every warning and still choose pride. Some are handed love and still choose control. Some are shown the truth and still cling to a lie because the lie protects their ego. Some stand at the door of redemption, look inside, and walk away because changing would require them to admit they were wrong. That refusal can be frustrating, heartbreaking, terrifying, and unforgettable when it is written with purpose.

Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (NKJV). That Scripture is sobering because it reminds us that deception does not always look dangerous at first. Some paths seem right. Some doors seem promising. Some choices seem logical, flattering, profitable or overdue. But something can seem right and still be wrong for your soul.

We often ask God for increase, but we do not always expect increase to make old environments feel tight. We ask for growth, but then we get surprised when old habits no longer satisfy us. We ask for wisdom, but then wonder why certain conversations begin to feel shallow. We ask for purpose, but then become frustrated when God starts pulling us away from things that once had easy access to our time, attention and emotions.

A real apology can change who has the power in a scene. It can make a proud character kneel without anyone touching them. It can make a wounded character realize the person who hurt them finally understands the weight of what they did. It can make readers rethink someone they hated, question someone they trusted, or see a relationship in a completely different light.

At first, a wake-up call may not feel like favor. It may feel frustrating, embarrassing, inconvenient or painful. It may make you ask why God allowed something to be exposed, interrupted or delayed. But when you look deeper, you may realize that God was not trying to hurt you. He was trying to get your attention before something hurt you more.

Wiseman J is far more than a mentor, commander or wise older voice. He is the foundation beneath the team. He is the strategist who understands the war. He is the protector who has already survived the cost of fighting darkness. He is the teacher who recognizes the potential in Kevin and Juanita before they fully understand who they are becoming. Many believers are not powerless. They are passive. They are not weaponless. They are undisciplined. They are not abandoned by God. They are walking around with spiritual tools, biblical truth, divine authority, prayer access, faith, wisdom and the Holy Spirit’s guidance while still letting fear, confusion, temptation, bitterness and discouragement push them around like they have no defense at all.

Many of us have done the same thing. We have blamed people who were present because we could not reach the people or circumstances that actually caused the wound. We have snapped at the family member who stayed because we were hurting over the one who left. We have accused the friend who tried because we were still grieving the person who failed us. We have punished the safe people because we did not know what to do with unsafe memories.

Closure feels like it should be part of healing. It feels like you should get the final conversation, the truthful explanation, the apology, or at least enough understanding to move forward without feeling like pieces are missing. But life does not always give us clean endings. Sometimes the chapter closes before we are ready. Sometimes people leave without explaining. Sometimes answers never come.

What makes that moment so powerful is not just the revelation itself, but what it does to your perspective. The way you see that person changes. The way you understand that situation changes. Even the way you see yourself can begin to shift. What once felt normal now feels questionable. What once felt secure now feels uncertain. And that internal shift creates a kind of tension that can be difficult to sit with.

Not every situation that feels like it deserves a reaction actually requires one. Not every emotion needs to be expressed the moment it’s felt. Proverbs 29:11 reminds us that “a fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise person holds it back.” That doesn’t mean you don’t feel it. It means you don’t let every feeling have control over your actions.

This 27th day of Women’s History Month, I found myself thinking about that kind of impact. Not just the women we celebrate publicly—the pioneers, the trailblazers, the ones whose names are etched into history—but the women whose influence is personal. The ones whose presence didn’t just pass through your life… It stayed. It shaped. It settled into who you became.

Chapter 13 of Book II of S.O.L.A.D.™: Soldiers of Light Against Darkness™ – It’s Just the Beginning gives us one of the most profound spiritual portraits in the entire saga — not of a frontline warrior, but of a restrained one.

The adrenaline of the new year is gone. The grit of endurance has already been tested. You’ve stayed. You’ve remained. You didn’t quit when it got uncomfortable. Now comes the harder question: Where is this actually leading me? That question is not a sign of doubt. It’s often a sign of favor.

Proverbs reminds us plainly, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23). Guarding requires boundaries, and boundaries require discernment. That discernment—knowing what to refuse as much as what to receive—is not resistance to God’s will. It is often evidence of it.

Soldier of Light Against Darkness™, many believers are exhausted not because they are disobedient—but because they are overcommitted. They confuse availability with obedience, activity with faithfulness, and opportunity with calling. The enemy does not always need to stop you. Sometimes he only needs to distract you.
