In Book II, Wiseman J continues to stand beside Jeff as Jeff battles the threat of Monstrosity and the anger, hate, pride and pain connected to it. He does not treat Jeff like a lost cause. He treats him like someone worth helping fight for.

He Is the Team’s Strategist and Protector
Wiseman J is also important because he brings something the team desperately needs: strategy.
Angelo™ and Angeline™ have tremendous power. Jeff has years of combat experience. Melanie has courage and heart. But Wiseman J sees the bigger picture. He understands the villages, the gates, the surveillance systems, the enemy patterns and the dangers that may be coming next.
He thinks ahead.
He watches. He prepares. He connects the team to the mission.
His military background, tactical knowledge and experience from the early resistance give him the ability to help turn chaos into direction. He does not merely react to every attack. When danger reaches Kevin and Juanita’s world, he goes through the portal with Jeff because he needs to know whether they are safe. He steps into an unfamiliar battlefield because his loyalty to the team is bigger than his comfort. He does not say, “They have powers, so they can handle it.”
He goes. That is leadership by example.
He coordinates the team during the attacks on Memphis. He communicates threats. He helps direct Angelo™ and Angeline™ toward people in danger. He uses his experience to assess what is happening. But when the fight reaches him and Jeff directly, Wiseman J does not run away from responsibility.
He fights. He takes up a weapon. He stands beside Jeff. He uses the skills he gained long before the Demon Master’s reign to protect lives in the present. That is an important part of his character. Wiseman J may be older than the younger heroes, but he is not obsolete. His persistence, determination, experience and faith still matter in the middle of the fight.
Age does not make a person less valuable to the mission. Experience can become one of the greatest weapons on the team.
He Is Family to the Team
Wiseman J is not only a commander. He is family. His connection to Melanie reveals the tenderness beneath his leadership. His concern for Kevin and Juanita shows that he sees more than their power. His relationship with Jeff reveals a fatherly patience. His faith toward the team reveals that he does not simply want them to win battles. He wants them to become the people God intended them to be.
That is why his place on the team is so important. He gives them wisdom, but he also gives them stability. He gives them direction, but he also gives them care. He gives them correction, but he also gives them grace. He helps create the emotional and spiritual foundation that allows the rest of the team to keep standing.
