Today marks the 30th and final day of International Black Women’s History Month, and I couldn’t imagine a more fitting chapter to close with than Chapter 2 of Book I of S.O.L.A.D.™ — “Destiny’s Call.”
This chapter is more than an awakening—it's a summoning. It’s about that undeniable moment when something divine taps your shoulder and says, “It’s time.”
And who better to reflect on today than the Black women who have answered that call again and again, often without applause, often through resistance, and often at great cost.
Whether through activism, intercession, leadership, motherhood, teaching, or healing—Black women have been answering destiny’s call long before the world recognized their power.
And like Juanita Grayson in S.O.L.A.D., the call often comes when you’re not ready, not qualified, not confident—but you answer anyway.
Chapter 2 Recap: When the Ordinary Becomes Extraordinary
In Chapter 2, Juanita Grayson is just trying to make it through the day. Life is moving around her, and she’s dealing with everything from school to stress to spiritual unrest. But something begins to shift.
A voice. A vision. A sense that her life isn’t going to stay the same.
Destiny shows up—not with glitter, but with gravity.
Juanita doesn’t instantly feel heroic. She doesn’t say yes without trembling. But something inside her begins to awaken.
That’s the beauty of purpose. It doesn’t need you to be fearless. It needs you to be willing.
Destiny Doesn’t Knock Politely—It Shakes the Room
Destiny has a way of disrupting everything. It’s rarely convenient. It’s never predictable.
It calls while you’re grieving.
It calls while you’re insecure.
It calls while you’re raising kids, going to school, working double shifts, or recovering from heartbreak.
And it calls again when you try to ignore it.
Black women know this call intimately.
Sometimes it sounds like:
“You’re going to break that generational curse.”
“You’re going to tell your story, even if your voice shakes.”
“You’re going to launch that ministry, that book, that vision.”
📖 Jeremiah 1:5 (NKJV) — “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
Answering the Call When You’re Not Ready
When Juanita starts hearing the voice of God, she doesn’t leap into action. She questions. She struggles. She processes.
And I love that.
Because so many of us do the same.
Destiny doesn’t wait for you to be fully confident—it calls you into confidence.
📖 Exodus 4:10-12 — When Moses told God he wasn’t a good speaker, God said, “Who has made man’s mouth? … Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth.”
God’s not looking for perfection. He’s looking for obedience.
Juanita’s yes doesn’t just change her life—it sets off a spiritual shift in the world around her.
The Legacy of Black Women Who Answered the Call
Can we talk about Harriet Tubman? She didn’t have a map. She didn’t have money. She didn’t even have full eyesight. But she had a call.
Ida B. Wells picked up a pen and started a movement.
Sojourner Truth told the truth—loud, bold, and unbought.
Fannie Lou Hamer faced beatings and backlash, but still declared, “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired.”
Kamala Harris, a Black woman descended from strength, stepped into a political space many believed was off-limits.
Dr. Maya Angelou answered with poetry. Michelle Obama answered with grace. Beyoncé answered with art.
And you? You’ve been answering every time you kept going. Every time you prayed. Every time you poured into someone else while feeling empty.
When the Call Comes Through Chaos
Here’s something I’ve learned:
Sometimes the call comes in the middle of a crisis.
When the job ends.
When the relationship fails.
When your health declines.
When your world cracks open.
God often uses broken moments to call us into bold moves.
That’s what Juanita faced. She was overwhelmed. But the call made her unshakable.
The same is true for you.
Destiny Will Stretch You Before It Crowns You
You won’t feel “ready.” You won’t have all the answers.
But if you say yes, God will:
Equip you.
Surround you.
Anoint you.
Push you into places you never thought you’d survive—only to thrive.
📖 Romans 8:30 (NKJV) — “Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified…”
You’re not called because you’re flawless. You’re called because you’re chosen.
30 Days Later: Why This Moment Matters
This post marks the 30th day of International Black Women’s History Month, and what a journey it’s been.
We’ve celebrated strength. We’ve honored struggle. We’ve told the truth.
But now—it’s time to answer.
The call isn’t just to remember history—it’s to make it.
You, Black woman, are the continuation of every legacy we’ve named. You are the fulfillment of
their prayers. You are the warrior and the writer. The healer and the herald. The one who doesn’t
just survive—but transforms every space you enter.
And even if you’re afraid, you’re ready.
Affirmation for Today
“I was born for such a time as this. I will no longer shrink, hide, or wait for permission. I answer the call with courage, clarity, and faith. Destiny has found me—and I say yes.”
To Every Black Woman Who’s Heard the Whisper
This post is for you.
For the quiet visionary.
For the bold speaker.
For the reluctant prophet.
For the exhausted mother.
For the reborn daughter.
Destiny isn’t waiting on you to be perfect. It’s waiting on you to believe again.
Just like Juanita, your first yes will unlock everything else.
