Reed's Reads of Wisdom Wednesdays™: You Were Meant to Fly: Releasing the Fear of Elevation

Introduction: The Fear of Flying Into Purpose

Some of the scariest moments in life aren’t when we fall—they’re when we rise.

Angelo and Angeline’s first time taking flight in S.O.L.A.D. ™: Soldiers of Light Against Darkness™ wasn’t graceful or easy. It was awkward, uncertain, thrilling, and terrifying all at once. Their rings glowed. The voice within urged them to concentrate. Their feet left the ground. And for the first time, they hovered above the world that had once held them.

Angelo found his balance quickly, flying like he had always been born for it. But Angeline? She wobbled. She flipped. She trailed behind, struggling to catch up.

That moment? That is all of us.

There’s a place between obedience and confidence—where we know God is calling us higher, but we feel unstable rising into it. It’s the space between anointing and action, where the air is thinner and faith must be stronger.

Let’s break it down.

I. You Were Never Meant to Stay Grounded

The entire arc of the Christian journey is ascension.

  • We rise from death to life.

  • From sin to sanctification.

  • From fear to faith.

  • From pain to purpose.

God never calls us to stay where we started. Whether it’s Abraham leaving his homeland, Moses ascending Mount Sinai, or Jesus rising from the grave—our faith is filled with divine elevations.

In S.O.L.A.D.™, the moment Angelo and Angeline fly represents more than a cool superpower.

It symbolizes the calling to rise.

But elevation requires separation. To fly, you have to leave the ground. You have to leave what’s safe, predictable, and familiar. Your comfort zone can’t follow you into your calling.

"He lifts the poor from the dust and the needy from the garbage dump. He sets them among princes, even the princes of his own people!" —Psalm 113:7–8 (NLT)

We were born again to soar—not crawl.

II. Wobbling Is Part of the Process

Angeline didn’t look majestic when she first flew.

She flipped upside down. She was dizzy. She was far behind Angelo.

And yet—she flew.

Some of us are afraid to step into what God called us to do because we won’t be perfect at it immediately.

But here’s the truth: Progress looks messy at first.

  • You might stutter through your first speech.

  • You might fumble through your first business deal.

  • You might write your first book and doubt every word.

But don’t confuse wobbling with weakness. It’s part of the process.

Remember Peter? The first disciple to walk on water?

He wobbled.

But he walked.

And when he fell, Jesus was right there to catch him.

"Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand." —Psalm 37:24 (NKJV)

Like Angeline, you may not look like an expert the first time you rise. But you’re still rising.

III. Elevation Requires Concentration

"Concentrate. Concentrate hard."

That’s what the rings told them.

That’s what the Holy Spirit tells us.

Spiritual elevation isn’t automatic. It’s intentional.

You have to focus your faith.

You have to tune out distractions. You have to anchor your vision. You have to fix your eyes on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of your faith (Hebrews 12:2).

Distraction is the enemy of ascension. You can’t rise if you’re too busy looking down.

When Angelo focused, he soared. When Angeline focused, she stabilized.

"Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." —Colossians 3:2 (NIV)

IV. Just Because You Can’t Fly Like Them Doesn’t Mean You Can’t Fly

Angelo soared. Angeline staggered.

That didn’t make her less chosen. It made her human.

Comparison is a trap. Some of us delay our own takeoff because we don’t fly like the person next to us.

But your wings were designed for your journey.

Angeline wasn’t supposed to fly like Angelo. She was supposed to fly like Angeline.

So are you.

"We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us." —Romans 12:6 (NIV)

Your flight path may wobble. It may veer off course. But if God called you, He will stabilize you.

Your journey is valid. Your rhythm is real. Your wings are worthy.

V. Flying Isn’t Just for You—It’s for the Mission

Angelo and Angeline weren’t flying to sightsee. They were flying to save.

Too many believers want elevation for admiration—but spiritual elevation is always tied to assignment.

When you rise into your calling, it’s not just about how high you go. It’s about who you can help while you’re there.

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden." —Matthew 5:14 (NIV)

Angelo didn’t leave Angeline behind. He circled back and helped her.

When you see others struggling to rise, don’t just soar past them. Help them fly.

VI. You Were Made to Soar

Let’s go back to the promise:

"They shall mount up with wings like eagles."

Why eagles?

  • Eagles fly higher than most birds.

  • Eagles can look directly into the sun without flinching.

  • Eagles use storms to gain altitude, not avoid them.

When God said we’d fly like eagles, He meant it.

You were made to rise above low opinions, petty arguments, small thinking, and fear-driven faith.

You were not built to be average. You were not redeemed to be restricted.

You. Were. Meant. To. Fly.

S.O.L.A.D.™ Reflection: The Power of First Flight

When Angelo launched into the sky, his joy was visible. It was the delight of discovery.

When Angeline wobbled but rose anyway, it was the courage of faith.

Their flight was messy. Uncertain. Beautiful.

It was real.

And so is yours.

Declarations

Repeat these over your life:

  • God didn’t just save me to walk—He anointed me to soar.

  • I rise, even when it feels unfamiliar.

  • I will not compare my ascent to anyone else’s flight.

  • I am built for elevation, designed by the Most High.

  • My mission is worth the discomfort of the climb.

How to Apply This to Your Life

  • Start even if you wobble. Do the thing. Launch the ministry. Apply for the job. Write the book.

  • Mentor while you rise. Look around and see who you can bring with you.

  • Trust the voice within. God has placed His Spirit in you. Concentrate.

  • Embrace awkward beginnings. Great journeys start with shaky first steps.

Encouragement for Today

Some people may mock you when you first rise. Some demons may try to knock you out of the sky.

But just like Angelo and Angeline, you won’t stay down.

The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in you.

You were never built for the basement. You were born to rise.

So flap. Wobble. Flip. But FLY.

You were meant to.
